​The weather is making it very clear (even if the calendar isn't ready to admit it yet) that Rose drinking season is back upon us in Central Virginia. Every year early Spring brings us a fresh crop of new releases, giving us the first look at the previous year's harvest quality. Most famous are the wines from Provence and the Rhone, but pretty much every wine growing region across Europe and now the world produce a traditional dry Rose. Fresh releases are great to try new every year, and you certainly don't need to have 4-5 vintages kept in your cellar, but they are not the fragile hothouse flowers most people believe them to be, at least not the good quality ones. Roses from last year should still have plenty of vibrancy and life if they were properly stored, and some great deals can be had.
