TASTING FRIDAY JANUARY 27th; NEW ARRIVAL MEADS AND CIDERS FEATURING OYSTER RIVER WINEGROWERS 4-7pm1/26/2017 Several new releases from area cider and mead producers came out over the holidays, so we figured we would give you all an opportunity to try them out for yourselves this Friday. Of particular interest is a new source from Maine that we featured in an email several weeks back called Oyster River Winegrowers whose naturalistic stylings make for some very dry, almost Basque-like product. Along with their regular bottling we will be trying their limited 'Wildman Cuvee', created by foraging wild grown apples from surrounding forests. All ciders use native yeasts and are unfiltered/unfined. Lots of fun new stuff to enjoy, hope to see you here! Will have another email going out later this week with all the usual newly arrived goodies, but wanted to give everyone an early heads-up on our tasting this Friday with new-to-our-area BadWolf Brewing Co. from Manassas. Often when a brewery is just getting themselves started in an area they just give us the basics, but we're getting the opportunity to dip a little deeper into their lineup, so we want to get your opinion as we welcome them to Charlottesville. In addition to the Aces High Pale Ale and Jesse's Girl Amber Ale (both in 12oz cans) and the Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Porter (mistakenly named it their 'regular' Claire's Va. Porter in the last email; the proper name is 'Radegast), we also have three new releases, all IPAs. Bizarro Mango IPA is a juicy, tropical mouthfull aged in Gin barrels; Virginia Hooligan is a richer and stronger wet hopped IPA base, and we have the choice of both Gin and Bourbon barrel aged versions to pick from (be sure to read the labels!). We will have a selection of these to taste Friday from 4-7pm, so come on by and give them a try! Also, be on the lookout for two new canned releases from them in the very near future (hopefully before April) of their 'Mother Pucker' Sour Raspberry Wit and 'Kaiju' IPA. For the last tasting of 2016, we are going BIG, as in all 750ml bottles and all awesomeness. For the continuing Christmas season we have two holiday themed releases (Smartmouth 'Santa's Helper' Red IPA and The Bruery '9 Ladies Dancing') as well as two new releases made during the holiday season (Sierra Nevada 'Trip In The Woods' Barrel Aged Biere de Garde and Lickinghole Creek 'Virginia Black Bear' Russian Imperial Stout). For the cider fans we also have a unique treat called Pommeau du Normandie, a fortified blend of unfermented apple juice and distilled Calvados, This style of beverage is common in regions famous for making distillates as it combines the sweetness of the base fruit with the complexity of the liquor, also mitigating the burn of the high alcohol. Locally the Kluge/Trump Cru has made the style very popular as well. Hope to see you here! We are DEEEEEEEP in the throes of holiday beer cheer here so it's time to start pouring a few! Today we are featuring several new holiday arrivals, as well as some new releases that will just taste good during the cold weather this weekend. On deck today are the Brasserie Dupont 'Avec le Bons Voeux' Saison (special unspiced holiday strong Saison), Vakka-Suomen Panimo 'Prykmestar' (strong Sahti spiced ale from Finland), Birra del Borgo '25 Dolci' (Belgian style ale from Italy spiced with bitter orange peel), Adroit Theory 'God Is An American (recently released Imperial IPA from Virginia) Terrapin 'Wake N Bake Imperial Oatmeal Stout (a long time holiday favorite now in can) and the Stone 'Give Me Stout Or Give Me Death' Imperial Stout w/Raspberries and Blackberries (VA only collaboration with Hardywood Park and Ardent Craft Ales in Richmond). Lots of great things to try as we get ready to enjoy the holiday stretch ahead. Hope to see you here! We are DEEEEEEEP in the throes of holiday beer cheer here as you can see by the list of beers in the New Arrivals section, so it's time to start pouring a few! Featured today will be the three beers in the Brothers Craft Brewing holiday release of their Rotating Series Limited 3-Pack of 22oz bottles (Oak Aged Elementary Porter, Whitlock Belgian Inspired White IPA, and Martel's Hammer Belgian Dark Ale), Einbecker Winter Dopplebock, Great Lakes 'Blackout' Imperial Stout, and Brewery Ommegang 'Lovely, DArk, and Deep Winter Oatmeal Stout. All beers being tasted today also rececive a 10% discount if purchased during the tasting. Hope to see you here! With SOOOOOO many of the holiday releases hitting the floor, it's time to start tasting them! For each of the next four Fridays we will be tasting across the selection of releases, from the spiced and Christmas themed to the ones that just happened to be released when the weather gets cold. On deck for today are the Southern Tier Krampus (unspiced Imperial Helles Lager) Port City Tidings (Belgian Golden Ale with Honey and Spices), Heavy Seas Winter Storm (unspiced Imperial ESB), Troeg's Mad Elf (spiced Strong Ale with Honey and Cherries), Champion Santa's Cookies (spiced Imperial Oatmela Stout) and Blue Mountain Blitzen (unspiced Belgian-inspired Winter Ale) Hope to see you here! . We have always concluded our Cider Week tastings with Albemarle CiderWorks because of their importance in the industry as one of the very first in the new wave of Virginia Cider makers, but also as a nursery for many heirloom varieties. Their efforts are a large reason our cider industry is thriving the way it is today. We are presenting a spread of their drier and sweeter blended and single variety styles; Red Hill, Gold Rush, and Royal Pippin. Tasting will run through closing today. All ciders being tasted today will receive a 10% discount while supplies last. Hope to see you here!
